Since his residence was near airport-- used to be my last stop often before leaving Kashmir. He would often drop me at airport, make sure, I don't have to wait or stand in queue.

Knowing that I abhor special treatment, he would surreptitiously pass message to airport staff to take care..I passed through his residence a while ago. Stopped at the entrance, thinking Shujat will soon emerge and in his typical wry style bid adieu to Delhi wala. The gates were locked. Housekeeper Bashir also seemed left to ancestral village. Ghālib'-e-Khasta Ke Baġhair Kaun se Kaam Band Haiñ Roiye Zaar Zaar Kyā Kījiye Haa.e Haa.e Kyuuñ “ Former Chief Minister and senior congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad while visiting his residence stated: “Sujhaat Bukhari was a great human, social worker and wanted peace and reconciliation for entire region. He was a journalist of par excellence. He shined in both English and Urdu Journalism and made name for himself while working for the Hindu and his own publications.

He was against bloodshed. He will be always remembered.” Scores opf trade delegations, lawyer’s forums and journalist bodies visited the residence of Shujaat Bukhari and paid glowing tributes to him.
